ERMAHGERD
In an effort to take the idea of a meme assignment into my own hands, I created this one for everyone to enjoy. I hope at least some people understand what I'm alluding to and appreciate my effort. Though I guess it can't really be considered a "blog post" since it's simply a picture, I feel like it kind of adequately describes my feelings towards the subject of rhetoric. Please keep in mind I don't mean to insinuate anything negative towards that subject. I just wanted to poke some fun at the fact that I know very little about the subject, I'm a bit overwhelmed by it, and this version of the exclamation OMG really cracks me up. Perhaps I'll utilize this meme in my future classes- if y'all deem it appropriate in certain settings and funny.

First and foremost, I laughed super hard at this. So kudos to you! I don't know as much about rhetoric as some others--I attribute this mostly to slacking off in my English classes in high school and in 103/104 my freshman year--and it makes me feel extremely awkward and uncomfortable. It's incredibly overwhelming to think that in just a few short months, I'll be standing in front of a class, talking to them about this area of writing that I'm so incredibly uncomfortable with. Obviously that's why 601 exists--to help us become knowledgeable and comfortable with rhetoric. I'm happy that we can all acknowledge the fact that some of us are not quite as adept in this area as others, but it's not a pitfall, it's an opportunity.
ReplyDeleteAs far as sharing it with future classes, I don't see a problem with it. Although, I'm not sure in what context it would be necessary, haha. Poking fun is always a good way to help lighten the mood.
I love this meme. I think you should share it with your class as humor can diffuse some intimidation. Rhetoric can feel overwhelming (it did/does for me), but letting your students laugh with your can be helpful. Maybe you could have them design a meme for a certain rhetorical concept. Let the laughs begin!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I think I'm echoing everyone else's thoughts when I say that ERMAHGERD ER LERVE THERRS MERM.
ReplyDeleteOkay, thanks for letting me get that out of the way. You and I have similar viewpoints, I think. Rhetoric is a completely new topic for me, and coming to BSU was the first time I ever heard anything about "Rhetoric and Composition." I think it's fascinating that we have people that write about writing--and on one hand, I want to say that's easier because the writing's already been done; it's just a response. However, this might be more difficult because Rhet Comp students have the idea of intent to contend with.
Whatever the conditions, you're not alone in wanting to bring a little humor into the overwhelming-ness. ;)
